The Geebung Special School "Rule of 5" is our school-wide approach to behaviour through the positive behaviour for learning framework. Each week we focus on one of the rules, with staff rewarding students who are demonstrating the focus behaviour with a "Gotcha".
On our assemblies on Friday mornings the Gotchas are placed in either the early years or upper primary gotcha boxes, with a student of the week drawn from each. Students drawn for student of the week are rewarded with a Rule of 5 wristband and a postcard that is sent home. The students photo is also displayed in the administration office.
Gotchas are tallied throughout the semester, with postcards sent home when students reach 25 gotchas. The gotcha tally is on display for students, staff and parents to celebrate on the display boards outside the office.
At the end of each semester students 'spend' their gotchas at our Gotcha Celebration Day, accessing a range of activities including a petting zoo, jumping castles and other inflatables. Students also have the opportunity to purchase tangible items with their gotchas on the day. Gotcha Celebration Day is a community celebration of student success in relation to our rule of 5 and parents and carers are encouraged to attend.
